The Florida Keys are a long string of islands stretching from the southeastern tip of Florida towards the west-southwest. Connecting these islands are a series of bridges, making it possible to drive from Miami all the way to Key West (over a two-hour trip). But the road itself is, for the most part, just two lanes, and the speed limit is set rather low. This is just a symptom of the general attitude in the Keys; it’s a very relaxed environment. For those used to vacations jam-packed with Things To Do, a trip to the Keys can be shockingly quiet. But it was just what I needed.
While half of my small group of friends headed to Key West, John Tassos and I set out to look for a nice beach from which to take some photos of the sunset. We ended up at Sombrero Beach in Marathon. There we were reminded that, although there is sand at some of the beaches in the Keys, there are also often harder things. This particular eroded patch was pretty cool, right on the edge of the water.
