This extra-wide photo is a composite of several photos stitched together. The full image is a complete 360-degree panorama at 17,000x1,300 pixels; most of it is extremely dark, as I locked the exposure settings to the piece in the middle, where the sun is. This is the brighter section in the middle.

I have a particular fondness for sunsets, clouds, sky, and water. There’s plenty of it to be seen in Florida, but it’s hard to convey in a photo the sense of vastness. In the city there is always something to block one’s view; a building, or a hill, or a tree. But in the more remote places it’s easier to get a sense of just how big the world is—especially when you’re on the high point of a narrow bridge between two keys, two little green blobs and everywhere else in your field of view is blue sky or blue ocean. Viewed against a black background this photo fares better.
